At its core the music video is a good old fashioned cat and mouse chase scene. However, where the mouse is usually portrayed as the innocent victim in this version he's a diabolical schemer who eradicates an entire stadium of cats via a 'mind-blowing' musical performance. At first it appears his evil plan has succeeded but he quickly learns that a few have survived and are on the hunt to make him pay for his actions.
This short would lend itself great for 3d. Think 'gorillaz' but even more grimy combined with the wacky animation style of Tom and Jerry. I have uploaded the first pass of the storyboards that I threw together this week here: http://vimeo.com/11981481 (very rough - more so to just to get the idea on paper)
When I started coming up with concepts for the video I had in mind to do it in 2d(flash) however the more I worked on it the more I wanted to see it fully in cg. I'm sure you can see the workload to complete this video is impossible in the given 2 weeks. However, I didn't want to get discouraged by that and decided to pitch the idea anyway and see if there was any leeway on the deadline.
As far as production of the video goes, I'm a character artist for the cinematics team at blizzard entertainment.(here is a link to my demoreel from school: http://vimeo.com/3876817) Blizzard having one of the leading cinematics departments in the world means I work with some of the most talented people in the industry. (in order to demonstrate the caliber of work blizzard cinematcis produces I've linked a few cinematics here: http://www.youtube.com/user/blizzard?blend=1&ob=4 and http://www.youtube.com/user/blizzard?blend=1&ob=4#p/u/15/yu1EE7GheD0 .) Several coworkers as well as a few friends that work at other companies have voiced interest in the project already and I'm sure working on an 'official' deadmau5 video would excite several more to join.
