The phrase ‘Munich Disco Tech’ isn’t far off entering the dictionary as an entry to describe incredibly dependable, innovative and eclectic house and techno grooves. In just 3 years, the EP series from Great Stuff Recordings has established itself as one of the scene’s most hotly-anticipated samplers, with the likes of District One, Ramon Tapia, Daniel Bortz, Coyu & Edu Imbernon, Umek, Jay Lumen, James Talk, Anil Chawla, Stacey Pullen and Tiger Stripes all featuring across the first ten volumes. Legends of dance music and newcomers alike; they’re all welcome on this highly-rated series. The latest instalment serves up tastes from Australia, England, Italy, France and Spain.
Australian electro house star Bass Kleph teams up with UK house heroes Prok & Fitch for the simple yet effective Disco Ate My Baby; a rolling bongo-topped groove that’s perfect to get the floors going early on. Both artists bring immense calibre to this EP, and create something that’s perhaps deeper than you’d expect from either of them on their own.
English Newcomer James Dutton’s Dancing With Strangers is a cool, breezy big room filler based around a sexy, simple b-line and spacey keys that come to the fore in the break. It’s a lesson in less is more, and letting quality elements do the talking rather than packing a track fill of frills and gimmicks.
Affkt and Darlyn Vyls team up under the name of One Hand to deliver the seriously naughty dose of Spanish funk that is Kunf. This huge track comes across like the ghost of electroclash battling it out with slick modern day techno – and is an absolute monster cut. If you’re after something a bit different for your sets with tons of charisma and attitude, this is your boy!
You just can’t keep Lissat & Voltaxx down. The German duo keep up a ridiculously prolific output, and this bubbly little bouncer is yet more testament to the fact that they never let the quality slip. A mischievous groove jacks away under pitched up vocal snippets, leading up to the entrance of those magical bells that the title refers to. Spooky yet groovy stuff.
French talent and Rex Club graduate Timid Boy returns to the series after his appearance on Vol.9. with Dark Side. This deeper cut rounds off the EP in a twisted, drawn-out techno fashion, blending the psychedelic sounds of yesteryear with modern groove and shuffle – something that sounds like it’s straight out of a Sven Väth set.
