Announcing the Umek “Slap” remix contest

Do you remember the first time you ever got slapped? No, we don’t mean punishment for mouthing off—we’re talking about your first experience of Umek‘s “Slap,” the first single off his 2010 album Responding to Dynamic. With its chest-crushing bass and grinding, metallic top line, it had a way of scrambling dancefloors to a pulp, cementing its place in the boxes of a range of DJs—Mark Knight, Joey Beltram, Len Faki, Danny Howells, Spektre, and Paco Osuna, to name just a few.

Now Umek and 1605 are giving you the chance to strike back with the “Slap” remix contest. Get the stems here, put an original spin on one of Umek’s best-loved tracks, and you could be the one beating dancefloors into submission. And, 1605 will donate the proceeds from stems sales to the Japanese Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief.

From all contest entries, Umek and crew will select their top three favorite selections to be released on 1605 and win a merch pack. Of these, the grand-prize-winning remix will take home Native Instruments Traktor Pro 2, Traktor Kontrol X1, an online course in music production from Point Blank, and $200 in Beatport credit. The two runner-up mixes will each win Native Instruments’ Traktor Duo 2.

Finally, the top-spun entry will receive $50 in Beatport credit. 

Official Stages : 

1. April 12th - May 3rd: Download phase - The remix parts of “Slap” will be available to download until the voting round. The stems are bundled for purchase at $1.99 USD, which 1605 will donate to the Japan Tsunami Relief.

2. April 19th - May 2nd:  Upload/Submission phase - Upload your remix to www.beatportal.com/remix. During this phase the entries can be listened to, but not voted for.

3. May 3rd - May 17th: Voting phase - The public votes for their favorite remixes by “spinning” them.

Final Rounds & Prizes :

Umek and his team will choose one grand prize winner and two runner ups to be announced May 3rd, 2011. The public will select the fourth winner on Beatportal. The grand prize winner will receive a prize package of:

1 - $200 Beatport pre-paid card 
1 - Online Course from the Point Blank Music School, from the options of: Electro(on Logic), EDM (on Ableton), or Mixing Dance Music (on either Ableton or Logic).

1 - Pair of HDJ-1000 Advanced Professional DJ Headphones

The two runner-ups will receive:
